The visual guides built into the tool allow the rider to consistently achieve their preferred lateral, fore/aft, and rotational cleat position, while the shape of the tool allows for increased leverage during installation to prevent accidental twisting. And, for Crankbrothers pedal users, the built-in tread depth gauge makes it easy to find the correct cleat shim thickness for an optimal shoe/pedal interface.

I'd highly recommend buying one

"I'd highly recommend buying one of these. Tried the first round of cleat installation without it, and found that the crankbros cleats tend to rotate when tightening them up. This tool greatly helps to solve that problem. Subtracting one star only because I DO wish that crankbros included this as a part of their cleat/shoe purchases instead of making you buy it separately, as I found that trying to get proper cleat positioning without this tool to be very challenging."
