In general “stainless” steel is a misnomer, in that only very soft stainless steels do not corrode. For example, expensive knives are usually made of 400 series stainless steels which will corrode on the surface if you don’t wipe them dry after they get wet. Generally, any stainless that can be heat treated can also corrode, but usually the corrosion is very light and can be wire brushed off. An example of stainless that is resistant to corroding is a formed kitchen sink. If we used that stainless for our pedals, however, they would bend too easily.
We use 17-4PH stainless steel for your eggbeater pedals, which is an aerospace grade of a special 400 series stainless. It’s expensive, and it’s very strong. Feel free to wire brush off any corrosion that occurs.
