Why are the two cleats different?
One cleat has two small dots in the center between the bolt holes, and the other cleat does not. If you put the cleat with two dots on it on your right shoe, then both feet release outwards at a 15 degree angle and if you put the one with the two little dots on your left shoe, then both feet release outwards at about 20 degrees. First-time users should start with the 15 degree release angle.

How can I change the release angle?
For a 15 degree release angle (earlier release) on both feet, place the cleat with the two dots on the right shoe. For a 20 degree release angle (later release) on both feet, place the cleat with the two circles on the left shoe.

What shoes will the cleats work with?
Our cleats fit any shoes with a 2-bolt pattern. Only Crank Brothers cleats work with crankbrothers pedals.

What cleats do I use for my road shoes?
crankbrothers Road Cleats are designed for road shoes. They have pontoons on the sides of the cleat for pedal/shoe contact and stability. They also provide traction when walking.

How do I clip into and out of the pedals?
Start by practicing with one foot on the ground, and one foot on the pedal. Point your toe slightly downward, find the pedal bars with your cleat. Press down firmly until your cleat enters the pedal. To exit the pedal, twist your heal outward. Practice this until you feel comfortable. I'm having difficulty clipping into the pedals.
Many mountain bike shoes have thick, variable tread. This can make it difficult to clip into some pedals. If you are having difficulty clipping into crankbrothers pedals, try using the shims provided with the pedals and cleats. The shim is a thin plastic wafer that goes under the cleat. It pushes the cleat out from the shoe sole to allow easier engagement with the pedal. If this does not work, try slightly trimming the shoe tread (in the contact area only). Use a sharp blade or sanding wheel, and please go a little at a time. The tread should make contact with the pedal, but not so much that the tread compresses (which causes difficulty clipping in).
